THE BUZZ: Stephen Frears hasn't connected with audiences since The Queen, and his take on Beth Raymer's memoir doesn't look to improve on his recent track record, as festival reviews have sighed at the apparent lack of charm or spark. Rebecca Hall + Bruce Willis = no chemistry? Hard to imagine until you watch the initial trailer; between her baby-talk voice and his acting, which recalls The Whole Nine Yards, the best bet here might be to pass. Hopefully Frears will rebound with his Muhammad Ali project while his Freddie Mercury biopic starring Sacha Baron Cohen is about to get off the ground finally.
Beth, a Las Vegas cocktail waitress, falls in with Dink, a sports gambler who swoons for her as she proves to be something of a gambling prodigy, earning the initial ire of Dink's wife, Tulip.
